At the WFNS (World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies) Spinal Committee meeting on spinal and spinal cord injury, in its rehabilitation section, the use of a biomaterial based on type I collagen (COLLOST / Salvecoll) in the treatment of decubital trophic ulcers (bedsores) was discussed. The provisions were adopted by universal vote, as stated in the agreement document prepared by the WFNS Organizing Committee. In the published International Recommendations on Spinal Injury of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, biodegradable type I collagen is presented in the recommendations for spinal injury rehabilitation section. http://wfns-spine.org/spinal-cord-injury-recommendations.
The use of Collost collagen material reduces the healing period of the wound defect up to 2 times. As part of the treatment, KOLLOST allows one to switch to early rehabilitation measures, and provides the possibility of rehabilitation for the underlying disease in the process of correcting trophic soft tissue defects. Another advantage is the possibility of using the material both at the inpatient and outpatient stages, and at home.
KOLLOST is already included in the Russian recommendations «Management of patients with the consequences of spinal cord injury in the second and third stages of medical and medico-social rehabilitation», section «Decubital trophic ulcers», and now it is also in the international «Spinal Cord Injury Recommendations»
